In my opinion, this is like celebrating Trump's decision to eventually cede power to Biden. What McConnell did wasn't leadership. It was a grudging acceptance of democratic process. He had many chances from November 3rd to January 5th to lead by clearly stating the election was legitimate. He failed, because he cares for absolutely nothing but his own power.
